Ring Size Measurement Guide

This guide will provide some general tips for measuring your ring size at home!

If you know your size but need to convert it to a US measurement, please use the conversion chart at the bottom of this page.

While I always recommend visiting your local jeweler to be sized in person to ensure the most accurate results, this guide is a good place to start if you are uncertain! For best accuracy please measure 3-4 times and compare sizes to select your best fit! As all my rings are handmade and cannot be resized, I do NOT offer refunds or exchanges due to incorrect ring sizing, please make sure you are comfortable with the size you decide on before placing your order.

Important Notes

Before you begin measuring, make sure the finger you choose is at normal body temperature since your fingers can shrink or grow when hot or cold.

Our fingers often change size throughout the day — the best time to measure your finger is the end of the day.

If you have slightly larger knuckles, it is better to take 2 measurements and choose a size in between the two to ensure you choose a size that will fit comfortably. Your ring needs to fit over your knuckle, but it should not be too loose or it will shift around.

Each of your fingers are different sizes and do vary from your left hand to your right. Be sure you are measuring for the correct finger AND hand you would like to wear your ring on!

Rings with wider bands will usually fit a bit tighter. If you plan on measuring a comfortable ring you already own, try to use one with a similar band width as the ring you want to order.

Method 1: Measuring with String or Paper

You'll need:

String, yarn, or a thin strip of paper
Pen or marker
Ruler

Instructions:

1. Cut a piece of string to at least 3 inches long.

2. Wrap it snugly around the widest part of the finger you want to wear your ring on. Make sure its snug but not tight!

3. Using a pen or marker, mark where the ends overlap at a comfortable fit.

4. Lay the string flat and use a ruler to measure the length in millimeters.

5. Use the International Ring Size Conversion Chart below to find your corresponding US ring size.

* Keep in mind when using a string or paper to measure your finger not to let it get loose but don't pull it tight. Doing either can affect the size of your ring.

Method 2: Measuring a Ring You Already Own

A better option than the string method is to measure a ring that already fits the finger you would like to wear your new ring on using the full printable version of this guide!

Method 3: Purchase an Adjustable Sizer

An easier & more accurate way to measure your ring size at home is to purchase a plastic adjustable ring sizing tool such as one listed here on Etsy. Follow the same steps of tightening the sizer around your finger as you would with the string method. When measuring be sure the plastic sizer doesn’t feel too loose or too tight. Once you find the fit that feels right, try it on at least 3 to 4 times. Then try a half size up and down just to be sure you have the best fit. Consider width. The wider the band, the tighter it may feel. You may need to go up by a half size.
